Treasure Fox wasn’t easy to build. But I don’t think it was supposed to be.
Charles and Ray Eames didn’t design the Eames Lounge Chair overnight. It took years of experimentation and countless variations of glue combinations, wood veneers, molding pressures, and temperatures before achieving the perfect chair.
With Treasure Fox, my goal was to build an app that would offer just as much thoughtful craftsmanship and intuitive ease. That meant working through technical and design challenges, missed expectations, and the constant pressure of costs, including servers, subscriptions, development and time.
This has always been a bootstrapped, self-funded effort with no big runway or safety net, just belief and persistence. Along the way, I learned the drawbacks of AI no one puts in a pitch deck. Models hallucinate. Systems guess when they shouldn’t. We’re still learning and refining, but we’re finally at the point where Treasure Fox is behaving like a seasoned MCM expert.
There were moments when stopping would’ve been easier. But I had a vision for a focused community built around MCM, not just another app. Something thoughtfully powered by AI, but deeply human at its core, built around the passion of people who care about craft, history, and discovery. And now, Treasure Fox is nearing launch.

Meet James
I’m James, the founder of Treasure Fox. I believe that objects carry stories. Before Treasure Fox, I helped global brands scale complex ideas without losing their soul, and translated powerful but intimidating technology into tools that empowered everyday users.
I have always loved and admired Mid Century Modern design. MCM pieces have a timeless appeal thanks to their restrained designs, clarity of intent, and harmonious marriage of form and function.
Shopping for MCM pieces can be rewarding, but it can also be an exercise in frustration for many collectors. I began to envision an app that would make it easy to identify, value and understand these pieces without insider access or gatekeeping.
I realized that the specialized expertise I’d built over all those years at the intersection of design and emerging technology had given me the perfect combination of skills to make my dream a reality. And that was how Treasure Fox was born.
Obstacles & Challenges
Creating something truly great with Treasure Fox meant choosing the hard path of building a fully customized marketplace from the ground up. Existing platforms simply weren’t flexible enough. So, we built the infrastructure ourselves as a true multi-seller ecosystem where individuals can run their own shops, manage inventory, and grow within a shared community.
That decision added cost, complexity, and time. But it’s worth it to design a system around community and continuity instead of one-off transactions. Treasure Fox AI learns, improves, and earns trust, while the system supports buyers and sellers alike with identification, pricing, presentation, and growth.

The Work
Treasure Fox embodies a deep respect for Mid-Century Modern design and the people behind it. Built in Michigan, near the roots of the movement, it’s inspired by designers who believed clarity, restraint, and purpose could shape culture.
I’ve strived to bring that same philosophy to Treasure Fox itself, providing a simple, clean design with easy, intuitive navigation. A custom blend of vision AI and language models plus a deep proprietary database lets Treasure Fox rapidly and accurately identify MCM pieces. Just pointing your phone at a promising piece at an antique store or estate sale instantly rewards you with the joy of discovery and the information you need to accurately assess value.
We built Treasure Fox not just to identify MCM pieces, but to engage and grow the community.
Education is at the core of what we do. Our articles are written by MCM aficionados and experts, with the goal to inspire, inform and connect.
Treasure Fox isn’t just a place to buy and sell. It’s a place to belong.
Designers can source and visualize.
Collectors and enthusiasts can deepen their knowledge.
Sellers can build sustainable businesses.
Connections are forged, and the system learns along with the community. Our goal is to feed your knowledge, support MCM businesses, and preserve the knowledge and legacy of Mid Century Modern innovation and design. Through our platform, you can grow your own MCM network,

Design isn’t just how something looks. It’s how it lives.
The same is true for products, platforms, and communities.
I believe technology should serve curiosity, not replace it. AI should amplify human knowledge, not flatten it. That the best things grow slowly, earn trust, and last because they’re built with care.
Treasure Fox exists to honor the past while building something useful for the present and sustainable for the future.
Whether you’re a seller, a collector, a designer, or simply someone who loves all things mid century, Treasure Fox is your dedicated MCM marketplace and community. Welcome home.
